Drop in Hours

Drop in hours are available to the adult students to find out more about Concordia College while you meet with the Admission Specialist.  The Admission Specialist will be there to answer questions about the application process, program of study, financial aid, scholarships and arrange a tour of campus.

What is the Goal of Accelerated Degree at Concordia College?

The Accelerated Degree Program, a degree completion program, is centered in the liberal arts curriculum, in which the course offerings emphasize educational experiences that cultivate personal growth and the development of skills, in preparation for a full and productive life.   The program is based on sound educational standards energized by a Christian philosophy and values.  The student is viewed from a holistic perspective that encompasses spiritual, social, academic and personal development.  Through the cultivation of sound habits of reading and critical judgment, together with a high level of ability in the use of the English language, the student develops effective self-expression and meaningful communication. 

Does a college degree matter?

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, individuals with the following degrees can expect to make in their lifetime:

High School Diploma: $1,100,000
Bachelors Degree: $2,100,000

So the answer is that it does matter.

How many students are in a class?

The average class size is 15 – 20 students.  Students are given individual attention from enrollment to graduation.

How long are the courses?

Our classes are accelerated.  Courses are conducted every four to six weeks.  You take a course one night a week for 4 hours and limited Saturdays.

Will my credits transfer?

  • Work presented for transfer must be from accredited colleges and is subject to final evaluation by the College Registrar's Office.

  • The overall GPA will be calculated by the College Registrar.  Courses with grades of D or below will not be accepted for transfer but will be calculated into the GPA for admission decision purposes.

  • College level courses in which students earned a 2.0 GPA or higher will be accepted in transfer from regionally accredited colleges and universities.  A maximum of 75 semester credits may be transferred in.

What is the application deadline?

We have a rolling application deadline for adult learners.

How long does the program take?

In order to graduate with a bachelors degree in Business Administration or Behavioral Sciences a student needs 122 credits total. The major requirements of the program are designed to be completed within 18 months. Additional classes may be needed depending on the number of transferable credits.  Contact Marlys Rizzi, Director of Adult Education, today at mjr@concordia-ny.edu.

When can I start?

  • Classes start in September and January for the major core requirements.

  • Electives, core and pre requisites classes can start at any time.

I have been out of school for at least 10 or more years, will I be able to handle the demands of family, work and school?

Most adult students find that going back to school is an adjustment at first; rearranging family time and work schedules will require flexibility. The classes meet from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm and courses meet for 4 - 6 weeks.  Most adults find the pace of the classes manageable and conducive.

Can I gain college credit for work experience?

Concordia College recognizes that adults have prior learning experiences that have produced significant learning opportunities.  These experiences may be evaluated for by means of a formalized petition process called “Validated Learning Experience”.

 

Where are the professors from?

Instructors in the Adult Education Department have at least a Master’s degree and work experience in the area of their competency. Some instructors are employed full-time at Concordia while others are employed full-time either at other academic institutions or in the business world.  Part-time instructors are hired to teach at Concordia because of the competency they bring to the classroom.

   

Are your degrees accredited?

Yes. Concordia College is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The Commission on High Education is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Commission of Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation.

Are there tutoring resources for adult students?

Yes.  We offer tutoring in which adult students are matched with other adult students who have demonstrated competency in the courses.

Additional: Meeting/Interview with Director of Adult Education for transcript evaluation

The following guidelines will be used as priorities in selecting students who apply for admission to the ADP Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts:

  1. Students should be at least 25+ years of age

  2. Students should have at least five (5) years of relevant work experience and

  3. Students enrolling in the degree completion programs must have 60 college credits (college courses with a grade of ‘C’ or higher).

The following guidelines will be used as priorities in selecting students who apply for admission to the ADP Associate of Arts:

  1. Students should be at least 25+ years of age

  2. Must have at least a high school diploma or GED

  3. Students should have at least five (5) years of relevant work experience and

  4. Students enrolling in this programs with 0-30 transferable college credits (college courses with a grade of ‘C’ or higher).
